I've found that I get best results on PAL DVD's with projector running at 100Hz, 75 isn't too bad, but 50Hz is hopeless.

I'm using powerdvd XP on a 1.2G Athlon with ATI Radeon video card.

Also I got a significant improvement moving from an Athlon 750 to the Athlon 1.2, although I did that for other reasons.

well res is comparatively low 800X600, cos thats the res of my FP, so its not that high a rate for the DAC to handle.

I changed the motherboard and processor as a pair, cos the old one wouldn't handle the newer athlons. Nothing else changed. I wasn't expecting to see any difference in DVD playing, cos the processor utilisation was quite lo to start with.

I upgraded the processor 'cos I couldn't record off air properly, so improved playback was a bonus.

The place I really notice it is at the start of crouching tiger.... when the camera pans "through" the wall near the start, the pillars pass by in the foreground and are very dark, so it shows. Now you only really notice its not totally smooth if you look for it. I found 75 hz nearly as good as 100, and certainly much better than 50. I think it 'cos of the internal rescan that takes place in the projector.

I'm surprised you're having problems with a barco, as the scan rate from the computer is the scan rate to the screen too. I would have thought that 50 should work well, 'cos that's what a pall DVD is doing.

Have you tried 50?

Also you say now and then... what sort of now and then? is it really regular and around 1 second? If so it could be silly windoze deciding that it needs to do something else. Make sure that all the silly stuff like scheduler is turned off.

Oh well, sounds like you'll have to live with it then boris.

but I think the aspect ratio and scaling is genrally done in the graphics card (certainly is with the radeon), so that doesn't use processor time.
