I downloaded a tool from boilsoft.com for converting PAL AVI format video files to NTSC MSG video files. I needed to do this because Studio 9 didn't like the original PAL format AVIs (these are ********** files I downloaded from a UK site). The conversion appeared to work fine at first glance, but when I examined the results more carefully I discovered that the audio track gradually fell farther and farther out of sync.

I realize this is a long shot, but does any one have any suggestions how to solve this problem? If anyone knows of an alternative tool for this kind of conversion I'd be happy with that.

Thanks in advance for the help.

your using a computer right?

go to the HTPC forum and search for DVD and region, or anything else that makes sense.

If that doesnt work(doubt it wont) check the thread about apps you can get for your HTPC.

I know for a fact there is a free plugin/app that allows you to play PAL DVD's to NTSC.

i believe its called dvdregion but i think i might be wrong

I assume you mean MPG video files?

In adddition to a different frame size, PAL also uses a different frame rate. If you don't resample the audio (25 fps -> 24/30 fps), your audio will gradually get more and more out of sync like you're experiencing.

Converting AVI to MPG is not straight-forward and can be very time-consuming. Especially when you complicate it by adding PAL/NTSC conversion into the mix. I suggest you do some reading at http://www.videohelp.com and inform yourself of all the issues involved if you're going to do a lot of this.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've already done lots and lots of searches (that's how I came across boilsoft). The tool is supposed to be able to handle PAL -> NTSC conversion (at least that's what they advertise) so I would think they'd take care of this audio slide issue. The video converts perfectly, very high quality. The audio is another story.

And yes, I know this is a time consuming process and all that. I'll check out that site though about the issues. I'm not too concerned about how long it takes though. My PC has lots of free cycles while I'm asleep...

And yes, I mean NTSC MPG files, not MSG files. My fingers sometimes have minds of their own.
