Pan A700E and Toshiba

Is anyone using the new Toshiba with a Panny A700E front projector and the HDMI input? I was wondering if there are any handshaking/sync problems between the two. Thanks.

my AE700 and HDA1 are hooked up via a 50 foot HDMI cable and it works great with no hitches yet. I leave the output at 1080i since the AE700 does a much nicer job converting that the Tosh.

Hey andrew,

what's your set-up, screen size, manufacturer, gain, etc? Did you notice a significant diff between HD-DVD and SD-DVD?
I have 100 inch da-lite ciname contour with audio vision. I'm fairly certain its 1.0 gain.

The difference in video quality for HD DVD v SD is just huge. Apollo 13 on SD DVD is almost unwatchable now :) The upconversion on the Tosh is pretty good too.
I'm using the a1 with panny 700,and 110 inch carada screen,no issues GREAT picture only thing I would tell you is have projector powered on before turning on a1,most people who have problems can avoid them by doing this,Very very dramatic difference in picture from dvd to hd dvd,I have waited a long time for this kind of experience in my theater, just great!!!
Thanks guys for the input, are you using HDMI or comp?
AE700 HDMI, and it works just fine. No handshaking errors to speak of.
Well this is certainly bad news.

Why? Because it is tempting me to spend money!

Hi Andrew,

I'm about to step into the water. I've got the AE700. Can you tell me if it *looks* like the projector is doing 1080->540->720, or is it so good that it just doesn't matter?

I'm just a tad worried because, as a test, when I upconvert DVD's to 1080i and pass them to the Panny, I can see artefacts which would suggest such scaling. Things like slight jaggies on near-horizontal lines. However, I do understand that I am going through 2 (or 3) stages here, so that might explain it.

Anyway, if you say it looks the business that's good enough for me :D

Has anybody compared component to hdmi ?? I'm waiting for my dvi to hdmi adapter and just using component. Will I see any difference?
On my set the component has more punch. Unless the HDMI is fixed very soon, mine is going back.

It's okay, I've answered my own question. Just watched a OTA high-def on the Panny for the first time, at 1080i. Stunning. No scaling artfacts at all. Way, way beyond my expectations! Unfortunately, it was The Master Of Disguise, but you can't have it all :p

Which is going back, the toshiba or the panny? The hd-ai looks incredible on my panny ae700 at 1080i over hdmi.
The AE700u via HDMI with the HD-DVD for example running PHANTOM OF THE OPERA looks absolutely amazing

The HDMI appeared to be a bit tricky and intially I was unsuccessful

CRUTCHFIELD tech support suggested starting with the component connection - then working up to the HDMI - a method that eventually worked for me

The Toshiba start-up directions are not well written

Make sure you finally set it to 1080i (as noted on the revision page) - because that is necessary for true high peformance
