Help guys,
Circuitcity has the 36hx41 direct view set on sale for 1299, considerably less than the newer hx42. The main difference in the two is the sound. However I was in the store and saw both of them. The 41 was showing the store feed in 4:3 mode and the picture was stretched vertically. The newer42 was showing the image in 16:9 mode with bars. Playing with the settings, I could not change the 41 out of 4:3, the setting was grayed out.
The store people were not very convincing, they said the image feed was not 16:9, just standard cable but it was the same program that all the high def feeds had. And the picture was obviously stretched.
My question is does the old 41 model convert everything to 4:3, and stretch it or was it just the particular type feed I was watching? The best buy site lists the 42 as having anamorphic dvd detection, but I cannot find that listed on the 41.
PS---I know there are probably better 36 sets out there but none of them fit my size width requirements. The Panny is the only one that will fit in my cabinet.
