I've noticed that when watching NTSC signal (cable)...the white vertical bars the TV uses to frame the picture actually cut part of the picture off. Specifically, I loose a total of about 2" from the width of the picture...cutting my picture down from approx. 40" diagonal to approx 38" diagonal. I there any way to make the bars smaller...or to remove them completely (least preferred). I called Panasonic customer service and was told there was nothing I can do. Can anyone help. TIA.

BTW...this is my first post here...I apologize if I've left out any pertinent info or screwed up on any of the terminology.

I don't completely understand your question but will try to answer it. If you are watching analog cable TV you can choose between (3) modes on the Panny by hitting the aspect button, 4:3, Full or Just. Full and Just are very similar and will "stretch" your program to fill the entire screen. Obviously 4:3 will give you the white/grey bars on the sides. If you are asking why your grey bars are cutting off more than they should be they that may a geometry/convergence problem that you can fix. I watch pretty much all 4:3 material in the Just mode. After a while you will get used to it. If I missed your question, let me know. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I recently got the Panny also. It does have a lot of overscan, and this is noticable even in the 4x3 mode. This can be adjusted from the service menu.

You both got the question....I take it this can't be fixed by a novice? At least without detailed instructions correct? TIA

Hi Joe, it depends on how much you want to play with your TV. A good place to start and get some info is at Brett's Panny Site:

Also perform a search on the Panny at hometheaterforum.com under "TV & Projection" area. You can also check out ***************.com. You can work on the overscan issue by performing Convergence 1 & 2 and then you might want to venture into the service menu and start 64pt Convergence. Good Luck! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
