I would like to know how tough is the TUF screen? I cracked my lcd with a wii-mote. I like having an HD device. I am looking at the Panasonic TH-50PX80 because it is large, is HD (not 1080p, but I don't care to spend the extra $$) and has the TUF screen.

I want to rest easy that I won't be kissing my $$$$ goodbye with a weak screen. My debate is either the panny, front or rear projection.

Please Help!!!! (don't flame!)

Panasonic's outer glass is the most break-resistant in the flat panel industry, but don't be fooled into thinking that it will not break if the impact is hard enough or the object is heavy enough or thrown with enough force. But it's way stronger than any LCD screen. You already saw the "metal golfball" demonstration video where it bounced off the Panasonic glass so this should give you a good idea of what to expect. I winced when i saw this on HDNet a year or two back but i was kinda amazed that it didn't break. But of course there are limits to it's breakage-resistance. Your best defense is for your kids to make sure they start using the wrist-straps on their wii remotes.

Oh an it's ok that you created a 2nd thread in this Plasma Forum to discuss Panasonic's Tuff Screen after you initial inquiry in the General Flat Panel forum so i don't know what's buggin that other guy. Welcome to the Plasma Forum. You did get some good info in your other thread once you wade through the flames
