I recently purchased a Samsung HD931 (which of course has DVI output) to go with my Panasonic 300; unfortunately, the Panasonic doesn't seem to support DVI -HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital content protect). I say this because the Samsung manual says “if snow noise appears on the screen, it means that TV does not support HDCP.†And of course snow now appears on my Panasonic!

Can anyone verify this or point me to someone who might know for certain???

I checked page 61 on the 300U manual.

It said the best picture is HDTV60 and HDTV50 mode using the PC or component input (not DVI !) at 1920 x 1080i resolution. It gets the "AA" rating. I think only the computer can produce this type of signal (beside the HDTV).

The DVI connection on 300U can only work up to WIDE768 mode at 1024x768. It only gets an "A" rating.

I guess that the DVI on this projector is not HDTV compatible at all, and it won't give you the best picture on this unit.

The Samsung produces HDTV signal on its component output and this should give much better video on 300U than the DVI connection (even if it is HDCP compatible).

Am I right or wrong ??????????

Someone said if you disconnect the DVI connection and connect it again while playing a video signal, it will make the Samsung's DVI to show video ??? Did anyone tested it ???

DVI connection is always better than component for the simple fact that it is a pure digital signal, no DA conversion.

That said there are some very good converters on some DVD players. Of course, these players cost $$$$.

I suppose HTPC through VGA is better simply because of the resolution that can be sent to the L300u. Personally, it sounds like too much trouble to me. The PQ from the Bravo using the DVI input is awesome! Very filmlike.

Other posters are correct. The 931 is incompatible with the L300u due to high definition copyright protection. This is the same reason you will not be able to connect a HDTV settop box to the L300u DVI input as well. Will work great with component though.

I know that from paper. Have you actually tested it ? It would be nice to compare the component output from Samsung vs the DVI output from D1. Has anyone done it ??

Thanks

i too purchased the samsung hd931 because it has dvi-d out (and because it has faroudja) and tried to hook it up to my pt300u using a dvi. no picture. a quick search on this post told me that it will not work.

question:

is it the fault of the projector or the dvd player? that is, will the 931 work with other projectors dvi input?

am i really going to see an improvement with a dvi connection (if i get the bravo d1)?

Those of us wanting to purchase it from a company in the States will unfortunately have to wait until probably after January.

I'd love to upgrade to the PT-L500U next month:(

I'm curently using an HTPC with DVI output for my AE300 and I'd like to have a second option of a DVD player with DVI output too, but I'm not sure which one to chose...

Is Bravo D1 the best choice for AE300?

Can it be hacked to be multi-region? I have a mix up of Region 1, 2 and 4 DVDs. And I'd also like it to have a scart output so I can use it with my TV too...

Has anyone managed to make D1 multi region? Any other DVD players ideas?

Thanks,

Julia

The l300 definitely will not work ... Tried to goof with it on a customers projector, afraid you will have to go the Bravo route. The HD931 is a great machine but your projector has to be HDCP compliant... sorry but there is hardware involved and not that simple to get around. A manufacturing company by license is suppose to make these units HDCP compliant. Samsung being a much larger company than Bravo has to respect that license issue. The only benefit on the HD931 is the HD... it is not worth the money if you cannot use it. The component signal will be the same as a much lessor costing machine, so I wouldnt go the HD931 route unless your player was hdcp compliant. Very silly situation. But I guess the fear is that copies better than the original will be made..

Hello,

Im a little confused here. Are you guys saying that *all* res. (from HD931) through the DVI connector to AE300 will not work? Or it will work with res. up to Wide756 (1280x756) ?

If this is the case, i'll be more than happy .. I need progressive PAL through

the DVI.

Cheers

Has anyone tried this with a satellite or cable box? I have the Panny 300 and was using a RP62 DVD player and a SA3100 HD cable box. I just had my cable box replaced with the new Pace box that has a DVI out. But it sounds like the Panny 300 won't work with that DVI connection?

My other question is about DVI cable length. I would need a 30' DVI cable to connect my pj with the way I have things set up now (running through the ceiling). I've read people here saying that you can't run DVI that long and I haven't found any online longer than 16'. Does anyone have any input on this issue?

I plan to upgrade to the Panny 500 as soon as it comes out and sell my 300. I'd like the resolution and the HDCP for this issue. I guess the HS20 would be nice to have 2 connections, but my room is set up for the Panny so I hope I can just switch them out if they have the same throw ratio, pj size, etc...

I run VGA from my HDTV box to the L300u (looks great). I run DVI from my HTPC in 1280x768 mode (again, looks great).

I run a 25' DVI cable length without problems (from www.lindy.com ). I know they sell a 30' as well.

Take care.
