I thought I would start this off. Owners, please go ahead and post your reviews, settings, tweaks and tips.

I'm about to use the Avia disc on 50pz700u to see what happens, will edit post after.

Cheers!

got the pz700u yesterday. absolutely love it!!!!! i went with the 700 instead of the 750 because i don't need/want to tweak stuff to within an inch of it's life. the 700 is a breeze to set up, looks great out of the box and with a few mnor tweaks has surpassed my expectations.

ps3 on it is ridiculous.

Awesome TV. Not sure how much better the 750u would be. My 700u looks incredible. Took back a 4665f samsung lcd and go this instead and don't regret it at all. Much better overall picture and with blu-ray, it just goes to a whole new level. Video gaming on it is also flawless. As mentioned, ps3 is absolutely rediculous albeit a tab bright, but that seems to be true of the ps3 on any tv.

So the Avia disc is telling me that the following settings are correct for my lighting situation:

Picture (+16)

Brightness (+5)

Color (-2)

Tint (-3)

Sharpness (+2)

Everything else off, black level low and warm color.

I kind of like +18 Picture and +5 Brightness instead of 16 and 5.

So yes, Avia is telling me to torch it.

how difficult is the avia disc to use and would you recomend it over any others?

I'm no pro, and the color, hue and sharpness look perfect, but I'm still not convinced I got the contrast right and brightness correct.

It's not hard in general, but I find the contrast setting hard to get right.

And besides the easy test patterns that have an explanation there is no manual for the 4000 other crazy looking test patterns.

Great to finally see a thread for these sets! One thing, how do they perform in

the dark? How about during the day? Do the colours pop out at you? How are

the blacks in both situations (night, day)? How is the glare? How quiet are the sets?

On a scale of 1 thru 10, how satisfied are you? Blah blah...

Thanks.

great and great - see below

"Do the colours pop out at you?"

colors are more realistic than poppy. that's one of the reasons i love it so much. i'm a television producer/director and it's nice to see my stuff as it was meant to be seen.

"How are the blacks in both situations (night, day)?"

blacks are my favorite thing abuot the set. in 4:3 the bands look like an extention of the frame.

"How is the glare?"

excellent for a plasma, nt as good as an lcd. i "pop" the picture a bit in t day and i don't notic the glare at all.

"How quiet are the sets?"

never even thought about it until you asked. it's quieter than don imus at an naacp meeting.

"On a scale of 1 thru 10, how satisfied are you?"

10. love it, love it, love it. was going to get the pioneer elite 1080p and decided on this one because the colors are more realistic and the blacks were equal to my eyes.

"Blah blah.."

blah.

just a note, not sure if this ok to talk about on this forum, but at bb they have a deal where you get $350 off installation when you buy it.

summary. love it.

What kind of lighting situation do you have? I got my 700u the other day and just got the diretcv HD setup last night so I should be able to play around with the settings a bit more tonight and this weekend.

So far I love this display and HD programming and BR look awesome....no regrets so far!!!

My room is fairly light controlled. I set the lights to just above the brightness the room is at night, when I'm usually watching tv. This way, there is slight comprimise if I watch it during the day.

I agree, SD is simply ok, but HD programming on this tv, especially anything broadcast in actual 1080i, looks amazing. It is much crisper than the Sammy 4665. I haven't tried blu-ray because I haven't been able to bring myself to buy a ps3. I have a 360 and between guitar hero and ghost recon 2, i dont have time to play another system.

IS the Direct tv signal any good? I have comcast, and it looks great, but I have no comparison.

I've had DTv for about 8 years now and it has alwyas been OK. With this new display I upgraded to HD w/DVR and it is simply amazing- whats nice is they even show you what is playing in HD in the guide by putting a little "HD" icon next to the program. The reciever is nice and it has ligths on the front to be able to tell if the signal is 480, 720 or 1080. I didn't intend to by a BR player but when I was at BB to get the tv it was on clearance for 50% off so I said why not. I'll probably take it back as I'm not set on a BR or HD/DVD and think I may wait for a combo player or something but it is nice to see what it looks like. They were also nice enough to leave a BR disc in it since it was a display model

Has anyone attempted using the 50PZ700U as a computer monitor, yet? I'm very interested to know if it will display the full 1920x1080 resolution with NO overscan -- preferrably via one of the HDMI inputs rather than the analog PC input.

Thanks!
