I'm in the market for a new 5-disc CD changer, shelf sized, and saw a Panasonic at Target for $149.99. I'm not familiar with quality of brands for these components. Any advice on which brand is good for less than $200? Thanks in advance for your input.
The 5 disc Panasonic DVD changers are cheaper and also play DVD-Audio discs. Amazon has the F86 for $80 w/ free shipping and the F87 for about $99. I just ordered the F86. AFAIK, the only difference is the F87 decodes 7.1 vs 6.1 on the F86. If you use the digital output the audio quality will be primarily determined by your digital receiver or DACs. If you go use the player's DACs there could be an audible difference with the CD player, but probably only noticeable in a really high level system. You can turn off the video circuits in the DVD changer, which I would recommend when playing CDs or DVD-A discs.
