Panasonic 5-disc CD Changer ?

643 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  dsmith901
I'm in the market for a new 5-disc CD changer, shelf sized, and saw a Panasonic at Target for $149.99. I'm not familiar with quality of brands for these components. Any advice on which brand is good for less than $200? Thanks in advance for your input.

I would look at getting a 5 disk dvd player.
The 5 disc Panasonic DVD changers are cheaper and also play DVD-Audio discs. Amazon has the F86 for $80 w/ free shipping and the F87 for about $99. I just ordered the F86. AFAIK, the only difference is the F87 decodes 7.1 vs 6.1 on the F86. If you use the digital output the audio quality will be primarily determined by your digital receiver or DACs. If you go use the player's DACs there could be an audible difference with the CD player, but probably only noticeable in a really high level system. You can turn off the video circuits in the DVD changer, which I would recommend when playing CDs or DVD-A discs.
Do DVD changers/players come with speakers and a radio? (Sorry for my ignorance.) My needs are pretty basic. ;)
no, you'll need a "in-a-box" system for that, or get a receiver and speakers.

do you not already have an amplifier and speakers?

the Panny F87 is an interesting unit - it can decode HDCD when using the analog out and makes for a more than decent CD changer.

There are (or were) some HTIBs that included a DVD changer. Here is a link to an article on several, including some with changers included:
