Panasonic commercial vs consumer Plasma

860 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  fasTLane
I want to purchase a 37" Panny Plasma set and was wondering if there is any picture quality or durability differences between the commercial Panasonic TH-37PH9UK or consumer line TH-37PX60U . I have read some of Bruzzi post and understand that there are subtle differences between the two. I am most concerned with picture quality and reliability. Because these are both 9th generation sets I am assuming that the guts are the same. I know I need a tuner and audio for the TH-37PH9UK. What seems odd to me is that the TH-37PX60U is a little less ($200) and it has more features. Any input would be appreciated and yes this will be my first plasma.

If you need a stand and speakers go with the consumer 60u.

The silver bezel looks okay in the smaller model, especially stand mounted.

If you plan on moving it to another room in a year or two it is easier to move the complete package of the consumer model as well.

If you have a home theater and will wall mount go with the 9uk.

The thin charcoal bezel of the 9uk looks great both stand and wall mounted, but if you have to buy a mount anyway you might as well get the 9uk.

If you don't have size constraints get the 42". The price difference is so small not to unless you can't fit it where you are putting it.

The differences between the two types are not subtle, they're huge. There are a lot of Industrial vs Consumer plasma threads here already with good information so just search.

The reason the Consumer is cheaper is they're made and sold in much much higher numbers, and they're assembled in Mexico which cuts production costs and saves huge on shipping to the US. The Industrial model is more robust, is made in Japan, is made in much much smaller numbers, and has to be shipped across the ocean from Asia.

On the 65 inch plasmas, the 600U has a contrast ratio of 5000:1 and the 9UK has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, correct?

Peace,

I thought the 50 9uk was from Mexico.
