I know I saw the answer to this question awhile ago but couldn't find it in search. When you do a SP recording (2 hours) does it actually allocate an additional 15 minutes? So to get SP quality you can actually record 2 hours and 15 minutes on SP mode. Also on the variable bit rate setting how much time can you specify before the resolution falls below SP quality?

Thanks for any feedback.

You sort of answered your own question. SP mode on a DVD-R or DVD-RAM disc has a maximum of 2 hours. However, if you use VR mode for up to 2 hours 15 minutes, you still get SP mode resolution (though at slightly lower bit rate/higher compression). So there's not really an additional "allocation" of disc space. It's just that you can squeeze a little bit more out of the disc before the unit has to switch down to the lower resolution.
