The IR receiver on the DMR-HS2 isn't that great.

But I had an IR remote extender lying around and used it to get a far better remote control reception.

I mounted the IR receiver on the back of my TV (out of sight) with the IR receiving diode pointing to the ceiling and the IR transmitting LED in my cabinet pointing towards the DMR-HS2.

I now can use my DMR-HS2 remote control at a much wider angle!

Thats cool dude, but I sure would like a less klunky solution. Anyone brave enough to try swapping the IR rec LED inside their HS2?

Bonapart, do all of us a favor and try it first! :p

Here's my DMR-HS2 pbase photo site with the picture of the PCB with the IR LED on it:

Keep us posted!

PS: my 'solution' will cost $20,00, a ruined DMR-HS2 will cost you more!

Actually, I plan to dude. I have a second unit on the way that I ordered just for reverse engineering. Aside from the IR issue, I hope to beat jvb to the punch in offering enhancements like hdd upgrade, luma fix, direct dvd/dvd-r read to hdd, and more! I smell a BIG market for upgrades to this unit.
