JVC has a solution that is describbed at NAB. It uses a new HDTV MPEG2 encoder that has a price point in the $25K range. It outputs 1394 to feed the JVC 40K DVHS VCR or the 400 pro version that also has the ability to encrypt the recording for copy protection. The 40K has no copy protection encryption capability. Source HDTV is via SDI standard.
