OK... this has probably been posted before, but please help me out. I was under the assumption that this TV has an ATSC/QAM (SDTV and HDTV broadcasts) built in tuner. And I was under that if you have an ATSC tuner, then you can receive over-the-air HDTV broadcasting. Is that right? Yet, I went to the Panasonic web site to read the specs on this TV, and it says "Optional external over-the-air antenna may be required for ATSC reception. " So... what's the deal with that. I saw this TV at Costco for, what sounds like a great deal, but I don't know a lot about this TV, since I had been holding out to buy a large screen HDTV until the Samsung HLP series came out.

While it has the tuner, you will likely need some sort of antenna device to actually receive a signal. I use a cheap indoor antenna from Radio Shack with my Panny 60 LCD. From 25 miles out, I am receiving all of the area's HD channels perfectly....

A tuner without an antenna is a like a car without gas. :) Radio shack should have an antenna you can use. There are inside and outside versions available, and results will vary on location, terrain, and distance from transmission stations. Good luck.

Thank-you all. If I had'nt been in such a hurry, the word "antenea" would have registered!

Anyone have an opinion on the choice between the Panasonic and the Samsung HLP 56" HDTV (the HD3 chip version)?

Only comment I would have is to watch as much of a DLP set (or be able to easily return the set) as you (and any one else that would watch the set) can before you by it and be aware of the head-aches / migranes and/or seeing the rainbow effect that occurs with some people on DLPs and LCOS sets. If you do not have these side-effects from the color wheel based TVs then they can be great.

FYI I bought the Sammy HLN 56" set last fall, my wife saw rainbows alot and we traded in for the Panny 50LC13 RP LCD. Back then rainbows were mentioned as a rarity, now I've seen more posts about them and recently noticed people talk of the head-aches (likely eye strain induced).
