I have Panasonic Tau CT-36HX41 4:3 set. I'm currently only using it for an interlaced DVD player and DirecTV, but I am preparing to get a STB to receive HD. One of the things that I want to be able to do it use the STB to upconvert the satellite signals to see if it can do it better than the line doubler built into the set. Basically, I'm trying to determine if I need 480p output capability in the STB or not.

My questions are:

1) I know the set squeezes the picture automatically when it receives a 1080i signal. When it does this, is the Aspect Ratio menu item available to set the aspect ratio back to 4:3?

2) Does the set automatically squeeze an incoming 16x9 480p signal such as those broadcast by FOX or would it have to be upconverted to 1080i in order for the set to squeeze?

Thanks.
