I am in quandary. I can buy either the Panasonic TC-P54V10 or Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD for the same price. I need to make the decision ASAP, but can’t make up my mind. I like both, but will buy only one. I have some experience with the Kuro as used it for 2 weeks while I was housesitting friend’s place.

Here are my pros and cons (or what I am aware of):
Pioneer:
Pros:

Great picture

Great sound

Cons:

Terrible remote

Heat (the TV heated a large LR by 1 degree / hour in winter)

No longer in business of making TV

Panasonic:
Pros:

Larger screen

Great picture

Simple remote

Less heat / lower energy use

Cons:

Average sound

Questions about quality / durability (e.g. reported power issues problems)

The TV will be used for watching BR or DVD, playing Wi; no TV whatsoever if that helps.

Any opinion is welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.

They are both good choices. In the end I choose the Pioneer based on past quality. And since Pioneer is not going to make televisions anymore, the price was really attractive. Got mine for $1900.
