This isn't the usual reason someone is crying for help, so bear with me on this.

The problem is....the price has fallen into the *hard to pass up* zone.

Circuit City is having a Columbus Day Sale, and this set has gotten seriously inexpensive. It is identical to the TH-42PD25U/P except for screen size. It has all the same features, including CableCARD (which is available from Comcast, the local provider).

What worries me is will the price fall even further between now and the middle of November (the start of the Christmas buying season)?

Ha, I'm having the same delima. :D Though, I also can't decide between the 42 and 37. My guess? A price drop of $100 at CC on both by Thanksgiving.

That's the price I was expecting to get (10% off everyday low price). At this point I have decided on the 37", and if I wanted this year's model would probably jump on it, or go to Sears for a price match.

My dilemma is trying to decide whether to get the 25U/P or wait a month or two for the unannounced 30U/P. I really like the lower power consumption and supposedly improved burn-in of the gen 7 professional series, and hope it comes down to the consumer versions.

There will ALWAYS be a "next generation" of any consumer electronics product, and it will ALWAYS be right around the corner. If you get a great deal on the current generation, what would stop you from going for it? Waiting for the newest thing will have you doing just that: waiting forever.

Just think of all the great TV you'll miss while you're waiting for the next generation

I am well aware of that argument. What I have to way is the importance of the new feature sets versus what is available now. There are numerous examples on these forums of weighing generational differences, where the tradeoff is price vs features, and in a majority of the cases, most people recommend if possible, buy the newest release. Just look at the previous threads on 6UY vs 7UY.

Well, then. you asked for opinions, and I gave you one, and apparently you didn't like it.

Good luck with your decision. In any event, you can't go wrong with Panasonic plasmas.

I was just stating where I was at in my decision making process. This forum has been a tremendous help in narrowing down my choices. However, I have reached the point where I will feel comfortable with my final decision. I apologize for my earlier response to your offer for help.

There is an obscure additional rebate for a 10% of purchase gift card at Circuit City if you buy with a Visa signature card through Visa.com. While prices may continue to fall, I think this a good value.

I bought my th42pd25u last month through a similar price promotion. YMMV
