Panasonic TH-42PX500U in stock!!!

801 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Ein
Hi guys,

I was looking for Panasonic plasmas online and I came across two stores--Crutchfield and ABT Electronics, which said they had the item in stock. I contacted them and they said that the item is available to ship this week.

I thought this model (Panasonic TH-42PX500U) was hard to find online if I am not mistaken. Is that true or am I just hallucinating? Did they come back in stock?

Appreciate your input,

Kumar

The 2006 International CES Exhibit is being held in Las Vegas Jan 5-8, where Panasonic may announce a TH-42PX50 1080p PDP.

Are you still interested in a 500U?
I believe the 50px50u and 50px500u are the ones that are out of stock everywhere.
OK, got it. Yeah, I am also waiting for CES to see what they come up with. I am also skeptical if there will be much use for 1080p because there are not many feeds with that resolution.

Do you think there will there be any significant improvement in DVD quality with those displays?
When HD-DVD/Blu-ray players are available, an HD DVD played on a 1080p PDP will look totally awesome. ;)
Until then... for 480i DVDs, an up converting DVD player should look great too!

Check out the OPPO OPDV971H which scored a 98 on the Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity DVD Benchmark December 2005 Review :)
There isn't going to be a 42" or 37" 1080p Panasonic next year. Not going to happen.

However, you will see a 65" and, maybe, a 50" from Panasonic.
Going from a 42" to a 50" 1080p PDP sounds great to me... :) but that will cost about $6.5-7K.
You won't see much of an improvement on a 42 or 50 at 1080P. 1080P only makes sense in the 60 and up sizes, IMO.

Agreed
My observation: The 42px500 has been back ordered for quite some time now. However small amounts of inventory have been 'trickling' in. Most online dealers have been taking pre-orders for the Panasonic models. It possible that Crutchfield and ABT have fulfilled there existing pre-orders and have a couple units left to sell. I havent heard of any large shipments so I would be surprised if they have more than a half dozen. But anything is possible now :)
It's too bad that there hasnt been more Panny inventory available for Xmas shoppers. But Superbowl is coming up and I too am looking forward to CES 2006

I think you guys should hold over your judgment until you are able to see them side by side. There will be much improvement. Since it will able to resolve every pixel from a 1080i and 1080p source.

Also keep in mind, people will sit closer to a 42" than a 60"+ screen.
