I have an opportunity to get an HDS20 (floor model) without access card for $380 from a local dealer. Is this a good deal? Is this a decent unit?(I plan to watch mostly OTA HD and regular (non-HD) Directv)
Not really. This is a good receiver, albeit a generation old. It suffered from a loud fan and slow guide and channel changing. Panasonic has continued to upgrade the software to improve speed, and they do offer a hardware fix for the fan, whch helps some. You can find them used with access card for cheaper.
As an example, I just sold mine, for $225, with the card. The only "problem" it had was that it wasn't eligible for the fan fix because I modified the case on my own to quiet it.
