Looks like BestBuy, Amazon, ABT Electronics, and a couple other places have this on sale for $50 off this week.

I'm doubtful this niche unit would go on sale for lower during Black Friday, so this might be the best price until a newer model comes out.
The 820 is a very good player. But dang, I just spent well over an hour admiring you’re HT Build. Sweet!!!

It can process the HDR data in the player by doing its own tone mapping and send it to the projector as a normal signal without a separate HDR flag. That flag can cause projectors like the RS400 to trigger a gamma curve that results in watered down contrast.
We are still in a 1080p world...
If I'm understanding you, the UB820 allows you to display HDR with a 1080p projector? If so, does it look similar to HDR on a 4K projector?
Thanks

It’s a 1080p projector with 4k eshift. In the threads that I have read, not much of a difference in visible resolution between the new real 4k models vs the eshift models.

The Panasonic tone mapping takes the usable dynamic range of the projector and fits the HDR data within that range. The new JVC projectors didn’t suddenly become able to go 30% brighter, they just have better built in tone mapping to optimize the contrast capabilities they already have to handle HDR. My 400 doesn’t have that ability, but the Panasonic does. So net net, the end result ends up being quite close.

So for the JVC RS400U projector would I see a noticeable difference with the Panny 820 UHD than with the Panny UHD player UB900? Also does it also have the improvement on streaming (Netflix, Amazon Prime) ?

Also is the 820's handling of DLNA home network stored movies better than the 900 (which stinks)
