Purchased a Panasonic Viera 1080 last Christmas but have not setup surround sound or a DVD player if you can believe it!

Obviously we are not technologically advanced.

If I understand correctly, a soundbar is basically the same as surround sound without all the speakers????? We don't need the Memorex effect as depicted in the 1983 commercial.

We do not watch a lot of movies, so just need a basic (but good quality) blue-ray and "surround sound" setup.

Thanks!!!!!

On a side note . . . .

Not sure if this matters but . . . we have Time Warner Cable and Tivo . . . TWC had to install some kind of card so we could use the Tivo box. However after visiting relatives this weekend, our HD stations do NOT even compare to the crispness of the Samsung tv. Is it because it because of the card???

I would think it is more the source material than the tv. Crispness of the TV by having an over-saturated picture are common with many LCD. People like that look. Without knowing more about your display, your relatives display and source it would be hard to make a really accurate assessment on the picture quality. Your TV should look good to you. Play with the settings and get it to look like you want it to.
