I have owned the 55GT50, 60GT50 & 55VT50 (in that order), we sit at about 8-10 ft (sometimes a little closer) and I am sending back the 55VT50 to get another 60GT50. If you want to read more about my decision then take a look at my recent post on the GT50 thread.

BTW, you didn't mention anything about the environment, nor your needs or expectations.

In fact I cant say what are my expectations. It is rather deliberation between higher quality (hypothetically) versus bigger screen. I am not sure what is better - may be the viewing distace may help determine what to do ...

At 12' away I'd opt for the larger TV. 55" is too small IMO from 12'. Some of our seating is 12' away from our 60GT50 and it looks small-ish from that distance. I probably should have gone 65".
