Panny 50" 60u vs. 600u

My friend wants a 50" plasma. He says the guys in Best Buy tell him the actual panel used in the 600u is better than the one used in the 60u. I told him that it was my understanding that the actual panels were identical but that the 600u just gives him upgraded speakers and maybe an additional HDMI input plus a couple of other bells and whistles kind of things.

I know this is a really stupid question but....

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Best buy employees never stop amazing me.
;-)

So can I assume that I'm correct and that there is no difference?
Essentially you are correct; never believe what you hear at Best Buy. The panels are the same. The upgrades of the 600U include a better-looking frame, a fancier base, better audio quality, a Cablecard input and a plug for SD cards. For some people, these upgrades are worth the price; for others, they aren't. YMMV.
I bought the 600u over the 60u simply because I like the look of the 600u better. Panels are the same, yes.

And a VGA port.
Could the firmware also be a difference between the 60U and the 600U? There are different firmware update files/versions between the 60 and 600 at the firmware download page.

It's possible the only differences in the firmware are to account for CableCard, but there's no definitive way to tell.

FYI - My 60U has an SD slot; everything else in this post is correct - - especially the part about BB.
