hi all,

got a chance to view the new panny 52" DLP in a local brick and mortar here in

the DC area

1) it's quite slim compared to the 65" mits DLP. has 720p/1080i markings.

(the matching shelving unit would hold an ATSC tuner, dvd player

vcr and HT reciever quite nicely)

2) quite a nice picture (although i only had 5 minutes to look at it)

unfortunately, they were using a Pan and Scan version of

jurassic park in an RP56 progressive scan dvd player stretched

to fill the display. didn't get a chance to check whether the dvd player

was set for progressive or interlace.

3) expensive (13.5K$US). wow, that's more than my whole planning budget

of my 10HT based HT with 92" screen and all new audio equipment, video

sources, electrical contracting... (or > 2.5X the 10HT+greyhawk screen)

i'd really like to see this technology come way down in price. looks like a great

replacement unit for the klw7000 i'm using for casual viewing in a high ambient

light area. (still more than 10X more than i paid for the klw7000)

I have a KL-W9000, and am looking to upgrade to the new Sony Grand WEGA LCD in February. MSRP should be 8K, and I hope I can get it cheaper. I will also sell my KL-W9000. I have quite a bit of ambient light, and have yet to be able to use a nice FP unit.
