I am trying to produce 1:1 mapping using the VGA connection on the L300U with the Momitsu 880 Deluxe unit. Someone told me to try the following:

34020Hz, 6000Hz

0960, 0540

1184, 0072

0112, 0040

0567, 0005

0013, 0009

0001, 0001

This setting does not use the full screen of the LCD pannel. It left about 10 rows of pixels unused on all 4 edges. I think the L300U is doing some internal conversion and it makes the 960x540 smaller!

After some experiment, I come up the following setting to use the whole LCD panel.

34020Hz, 6000Hz

1035, 0540

1184, 0072

0112, 0005

0567, 0005

0013, 0009

0001, 0001

I am not expert in this thing. So I am posting them for any 300U owner to try. As you know, only the component and VGA can accept HDTV60 (1080i) signal on this 300U. With the above setting, my 300U sees the HDTV60 signal from the 800D DVD player on the VGA connection.

After you tried the above setting, please come back and tell us if it produces better PQ than the component and DVI connection.

To me, I think it gives better PQ than the DVI at wide786 and better than the component at 1080i. The color using DVI and VGA is more natual compared to component. The contrast using VGA is better than the DVI.

Have fun and please post your findings.

Thanks.

I tried (shortly) the VGA with your custom setting. So far (only 1 or 2 scenes from the matrix), I would agree with you. The contrast seems to be better. The details seem also better. I said seem since I would like to see the pattern in Avia to see if there is a difference. I should try it tonigh. Thanks for your setting, like I said before, I like to have fun with only the price of a VGA cable!

After viewing the resolution pattern in Avia, I switch back to wide786. The signal was really degrading at around 4.0mhz. The signa with DVI wide786 was perfect at every level. Anybody looking for 25feet RGB plus a DVI-VGA adapter:)

I remember the endless discussion about this 1:1 mapping. This was when I bought my Pl-300U. What I had in mind was to try the VGA at 1080i since the internal scaler of the projector was supposed to do a better job with this resolution because of the 1/4 HD panel. At that point in time, I didn't see any report for this resolution and I didn't have the DVI / VGA adapter. Thus I was always curious about it. Since I have now an adapter, I tried it last nigh and guest what...based on the resolution pattern in Avia, It is not better then the wide768 via DVI. Well... it cost me 20$ to try.

Nothing wrong with trying :) I know I tried everything to get it to work. The problem was the 300u had a odd ball rez that was never used in the PC world. Because of this is was never perfected. Panasonic also never updates firmwares on their products like Sanyo. I had the 300u and 500u and I jumped ships to the Z2 and I never looked back. Seems this is also happening with the new Z3. It's turning out to be a better PJ then the 700u. In terms of pixel mapping and VB.

Sorry to hear that someone spent or wasted money to try this rez. I am still using this rez and I still think its contrast is better than DVI. I do not have Avia and I just compare it with my old eyes. It may be just my imagination because I really like to see HDTV60 word in the Option menu :D

Don't feel bad about it. Usually, my "try" are really more expensive. Anyway, when I first looked at it, yes it seems better with the exception of the details that had "frills". The AVIA pattern did confirm that the higher freq had problems.

The AE 100 and 200 can do pixel perfect.
