All the answers to your questions are already here on this forum. You will need a STB to obtain HD. I have the Sony HD200 with the Panasonic plasma and am very pleased. HD picture is excellent.

for info regarding stations, towers, signal strength and antenna requirements in your area for OTA.
TitanTv web site will also provide you with HD programs in your area on a daily basis. DirecTV has HBO, Showtime and HDnet at this time in HD.
