Does the built in HDTV tuner on this set have a signal meter like some of the DVR's have?

I don't have any experience with DVRs, but on this TV you can call up a menu that gives you signal strength, expressed as a percentage and a little bar graph. It tells you the current signal you're getting as well as the maximum yet achieved.

By the way, if anyone has antenna recommendations I'd love to hear them. I've got a Terk HDTVa which is sorta okay but not great and takes up a lot of space.

Thanks, thats good to hear. As far as antennas, it depends on your location and how many miles you are to the towers. Go to www.antennaweb.org and it will give you coordinates and distance to the towers, also antenna recommendations. For me, I was 45 miles away and went with a Radio Shack U-75R and am very pleased. I also heard great things with the Channelmaster 4221/4228 antennas. These are prety good size antennas but I was lucky and able to put it in the attic.

The PX50 does have a Signal Meter, but it's only available when you have the TV's tuner set up in Antenna mode and only when you're actually watching something over the antenna.

If the tuner is in Cable mode then the signal meter doesn't work, nor will it work if your source is anything other than the TV's built-in OTA tuner.

Thanks Randy, thats the info I was looking for. I wont have my Direct TIvo HD DVR until a week later after my TV comes in, but already have the OTA antenna installed. I will be hooking this up directly to the Panny and was hoping to have a signal meter to adjust the antenna and able to watch Local HD until my reciever comes in, and it sound like it does.

Unfortunately I have to settle for an indoor antenna. From what I've read there's no such thing as a good one so I'll have to buy some different ones and experiment. Right now the Terk brings in all the channels I need but not very consistently, and it's sorta bulky and tips over too easily.

Yeah that should work just fine. The signal meter is buried a few levels deep in the user menu so it takes several button presses to get to, but at least it's there. The tuner isn't all that sensitive so a good antenna is a must.
