First let me say thanks, I have been trolling here doing research for our Plasma purchase and ended up choosing the WD7UY. I bought the unit from a reputable authorized on line retailer who happened to be in our area. This allowed me to waive the shipping charges as I picked the unit up myself. When I arrived at there warehouse / store they had the unit ready for me. I asked if we should open it up and make sure it was not damaged and they assured me that since they are double packed the unit would be fine, and besides since I still had to transport it 50 miles we best leave it packed. We got it home last night and brought it in the house, then had guest over for dinner, so I could not open it immediately. Finally about 9:15 last night I get to open it and I unpack the outer box then take off the inner box only to find several long thin pieces of Dry Wall in the box, no display! I immediately became ill. I called the retailer, who of course was close so I left them a message. I then called our credit card company to try to stop payment but the payment had already gone through and they said that they can dispute the payment if the retailer doesn't make thing right. So I then called the police and filed a report both in our town and with the PD in the town where it was purchased. We took several pictures of the item exactly the way we unboxed it and didn't touch anything. I received a call from the retailer first thing this morning whom was very sympathetic and wants to make this right. They are calling their distributor to start an investigation as to what needs to be done. It appears that these are shipped from Panasonic via common air freight in their individual boxes so every one knows whats inside. I am still waiting to here back from the retailer to get this resolved, and am hoping it will be quick as I would really like to watch the display I have paid for.

OMG! If i were you i wouldnt be posting, i'd be getting a refund from the dealer for the $1K+ box of drywall. Id have a new plasma and some accessories for free because of this nonsense. You know it now, but anytime you are purchasing any lcd/plasma/tft display technology always inspect the panel prior to completing the sale to verify operation and in your case, existence of the unit :D , buit seriously i hope all works out for you.

WOW! I can't image how anyone's going to top your horror story unless their box includes an assortment of venomous animals or something! Thanks for posting, please keep us informed, and best of luck!

thill212, since you paid with a credit card and you did not get the goods, you're not responsible for a dime.

Do not pay your credit card company - dispute the payment instead.

I would insist that the vendor delivers a brand new plasma to your home free of charge on the double.

Into the box I hope! ;)

Your user info doesn't say where you live.

I would also be interested in knowing who the RAOLR is.

TIA

Crazy! I don't know that you can blame the retailer on this one. It was most likely the shipper who decided to pull a fast one. Obviously the retailer would realize this isn't going to fly. But finding the specific shipper who pulled the stunt could prove difficult if the retailer & shipper don't have good records.

But never fear, you can dispute this and it sounds like you're on the right track. Be sure to post back with results!

Not to minimize your woes, but you might want to change the title of your post as I originally thought you were having problems with the Panny itself (as I have one and so far am pleased). It might mislead others into thinking there are issues, though I know most will get it as soon as they read your post.

I do think you should find out who the vendor used to ship and let us know so that those who will be making purchases can verify that shipper is not used in their future purchases.

MORAL: always open the box and inspect the panel carefully before you sign for it:

once you sign for it any subsequent claims are harder to resolve

First off, you have my sympathy. That would have broken my heart. I didn't even pay for it, and reading it I felt sick. I can't begin to guess how I would have reacted.

But there is a lesson to learn from this...

While you can save money by picking up these panels yourself, it is ALWAYS recommended you take advantage of any insured shipping offered. It could have been much worse. You could have gotten home to discover it was damaged on the drive home (these are large panes of glass, after all). You would have had no recourse then.

and as markrubin said, ALWAYS INSPECT BEFORE YOU SIGN.

Keep us posted as to what happens.

That's what I thought the post was going to be about when I first started reading it. You have some inconvenience now, but it could have been worse. Good luck with straightening everything out.

The poster is new, pops in, tells the story, won't mention names, then goes to dinner.
Then what do you believe is his motive? I see no conspiracy here.
