PARADIGM SEISMIC 12- Comments on please

2551 Views 16 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Zissou
I am considering a Paradigm Seismic 12 sub to go w/ a Studio 60 or Studio 100 5.1 set-up. Can some of you bass guys comment on your experience with this sub, please. This sub's msrp is around $1700. , kinda pricey. Thanks for input.

I SHOULD HAVE NOTED that I do about 70% movies, and about 30% music, and the room is about 14'X22'.

One of the best subs out there if you require a small sub. That is what you are paying for. If you can go bigger, you will pay a lot less for similar if not better performance. If you need to stay small you will be very happy with it. You might also want to compare it to the Velodyne SPL-1200R or the Sunfire Signature. The Velo is a little cheaper and the Sunfire is a little more expensive, but in my opinion these are the three best small subs. Originally when I was looking at subs of this size/price these were the top three for me. I would have chosen the Velo if I had not decided to go with a larger sub.
Yea...my WIFE requires a smaller sub. :( I think what you said about size/cost is very accurate from my early research on what is out there in price/performance/size. The $1700. is a high premium for the 14"X14"X14" size, but I have been impressed by favorable reviews and Paradigm quality that I have listened to so far.

Give a listen to the Velodyne SPL1200R. Same class as the Pdigm. IMO a little more "musical" then the Pdigm, but you listen to more movies than music.

Wolvernole, don't mean detour you, but at that price have you listened to the Servo-15? Perhaps if you get it in the nice finish, your wife won't notice - WAF is all good :D . I was originally going for the Seismic 12, great sub, but opted for the Servo. It's not cheap, but since you are looking at that price range...have fun either way...
Dood the seismic is a outstanding sub! it has darn near the output of the servo 15 but doesn't go as low and for my tastes I like the servo, but I also Don't care how big crap is, I just want preminum sound and since size made no difference I went with the servo :) O and It did help I got 2 for 1300 cdn each woo hooo!
OK, this gives me some more to research/listen to. This is some excellent advice. BTW, I heard a REL that sounded pretty musical today...was only about $800. but I think it was a little underpowered.
I bought the Seismic a year ago and was thrilled with how much sub I got for the money. I pined away looking for input of the forum and couldn't find anything. I thought it was the best sub I could buy for $1,300, ended up selling it and buying a Revel Concerta and maybe it is just my environment but the Revel is superior and was less money.
I would spend the extra for the servo 15. IMOHO the extra money is worth it but if dealer will let you compare then compare them in your room. My room size is 14X22. I use mine with 100s also in 7.1 setup.

I AM FINDING THAT THE MSRP OF THE VELODYNE SPL-1200 R IS $1899., while the Paradigm SEISMIC 12 is $1700.

The Velodyne has a neat little remote and a lot of custom settings and EQ which is kinda cool. The stats on them are "about" the same. Thanks for the tip. ;)
wolvernole.....i currently have dual seismic 12 subs in my setup and a vtf3.2.......the seismics are a lot easier to set up as i find they sound pretty good anywhere in the room....also they sound excellent for music........i got them for 1450 cnd each so shop around and you'll find a good price......i couldn't find the servo 15 v2 for anything less than 2000 cnd....good luck
Thanks Parapet. Great input.
Wolvernole. 2nd the motion of the input by Parapet. I am currently building my home theatre and I also have 2 Siesmic 12's waiting to be powered up. I'm currently having assistance with the construction of my theatre by a specialist who worked at Paradigm for years and guess what - he also designed the Siesmic 10 & 12. It took a long time to design due to his teams intentions of competing with subs twice it's size and price. It fires big time with music as well as the movie soundtracks without a lot of tuning just as Parapet mentioned.

The Servo 15 does have an edge on performance but you would really be splitting hairs to notice it. You would really be compromising your original goal by going for a larger box... the difference in my opinion is not worth the extra money and size. Don't over analyze just audition one of these subs and hear/feel it for yourself. If you want a compact sub that's practaically invisible and throws you back on your couch.. you found it. Reddy.
Reddy-

You and Parapet have really encouraged me on leaning toward the Seismic 12. I think that this is an excellent choice. You are very fortunate to have the assist from such an individual as that. Hey, best wishes on an awesome set-up, obviously ! You will obviously be in audio-video nirvana ! ;)

I wonder if the Seismic 12 is suitable for listening place of about 3300 cubic feet. Also how you would compare it with the in Logan Depth sub, or SPL1200R for this space? Any other suggestions for small but powerful sub?
