I currently have the Studio's but have come across used Ascends on my local craigslist. I don't think I will have a chance to demo them first. Would it be an upgrade or downgrade to go to the Ascend?

I don't know about v3 of the studios but I would consider it a downgrade from the current studios. In fairness though they are at different price points.
