The local Tweeter has the monitor line at 30% off as they are no longer going to carry the line.

I heard the GR20 and thought they were very good but they just did not make my toes tingle. The Paradigm Studio 60 appear to be a highly rated speaker at an attractive price. The fact that they are not real wood is not an issue as I was going to get black anyway and the vinyl and wood look the same.

I was also considering the 40s as they may give me some flexibility with placement.

These are for 80% music and 20 HT.

Anyone compare these?

Thanks.

I didn't think the two are in the same price bracket?! The GR20 retails for over $4000cdn and the Studio 60s v3 alot less I'd imagine. Are you sure you're not talking about the S6?

I had the Studio 60s v1 and they were great for the money. I was driving them with a Marantz receiver and although imaging and bass were good, the uppers were sometimes too harsh and fatiguing.

I test drove the MA Gold center ($1500cdn) at home and I thought the midrange was smoooooth......very seductive to listen to. Was a step up from my current Hales Revelation Twos. Didn't have a nasal/midbass hump like the Silver S2 I tried. I'd love to hear the GR20 but my wallet might not:)

I'm not answering your question directly and our pricing structure must be different, but for me, the GR20 is a big step up.

Would you mind sharing what you can score the two for?

Bing is correct. The Studio 60 is more comparable to the MA Silver S6 which I have. The GR20's retail for ~$3000 US. They are probably closer to the Paradigm Signature line than the Studio's.

The sound of these two speakers are quite a bit different IMHO. Paradigm is designed and built in Canada, while Monitor Audio is British. The British "sound" tends to lean toward neutral or what many in the US would call laid back, while Canadian speakers have a more "live" sound.

With that said, if you have the opportunity to get GR20's at 30% off, that's like a $900 discount!!! Buy them and try them for a few weeks and then sell them if they don't work out for you. MA's hold their value very well.

Guys,

I can buy the GR20s for $2050 so they are a little more than the 60s. Like everyone,I am trying to spend as little as possible and still get great results.

Someone else mentioned that the Jm lab 916 cobalt and the electra 906 at this price range,

What do you think?

I am just getting familiar with the JM Labs, but initial thoughts (Electra 926 or 7 BE) are beautiful mids and upper end and soundstage but thin on bass. It may have been the room (high, high end store) but others here have mentioned that too about the Chorus line. Try in out.

I really think the GR20 is a league above the 60s. Sure they're more, but you have to spend thousands more to upgrade the next time. With the 60s, it's easier to move up from. Bottom line, GR20 is better sonically, visually, survive longer without upgraditis, and probably has better resale value. ****....at that price I should get you to buy me a pair and pay you shipping and commission!

Bing,

Thanks for the reply. Too many speaker choices and they are not being heard in the same place with the same equipment. I think I will order the GR20 and center...

Now I have to decide what to power it with....Again too many choices. Rotel,NAD, ARCAM ,Elite,Marantz......
