First post on this site, love it so far.

I have just acquired a bluray player for free however it has no optical out to go to my receiver.

My receiver has today shown its age by not having HDMI pass through for the audio, never needed to until today.

Trying to salvage the situation without having to fork out for a new receiver yet as I just ordered some Aura shakers and new amp. I digress, do you think it would be possible to HDMI to my TV and out 5.1 from its optical port?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi daftfunk, what model TV, receiver and Blu-ray do you have? Most TV will not pass DD 5.1 from HDMI input.

Does the Blu-ray and receiver have digital coaxial?

Odds are the TV will pass 2.0 audio. You can probably still get fine ProLogic II surround. You should try, since there are TVs that pass 5.1 and you'll probably like it anyway.

STR-K890 receiver (don't laugh, it has served me well)
PS51F5500 TV
DMP-BD75

I could use my PS3 but its very cumbersome for playback and gets rather toasty.

I'm thinking i may just have to bite the bullet and get a new receiver, sell my iPhone when the contract ends and upgrade.

Thanks for your help folks.
