Hello,

A friend of mine from Lisbon, Portugal (R2 PAL) claims his copy of PotC has full-bitrate DTS. He checked this using the latest version of PowerDVD. is this true? Can some one with the R2 PAL version confirm this? What about the R1 version?

Thanks!!

Based on the (current issue) Widescreen Review D-Theater review of THE PASSION and their comments from comparing the DD with the DTS (full bitrate) audio, it sounds like for fans of the film, the Canadian R1 DVD version is the way to go. I'm not about to buy a second copy, though, just to get a better DTS track. Too bad the American version went the lower-bitrate route (and apparently for unnecessary reasons, as I assume the Canadian version has the same video bitrate).

Hello FoxyMulder,

Seems that is the consensus between you and the others that have posted in this thread. That the Canadian and R2 are full-bitrate and that only the US version is half. Can I ask you where you got your information? Did you test your copy using PowerDVD?

It's also interesting that they are putting out full bitrate DTS dvds once again a 5 year hiatus. Hope more are on the way!! :)

Thanks every one!!

Or "Jesus Reloaded" ;)

Dark7pt1, I buy all my Canadian DVDs from www.dvdsoon.com . They take forever to restock titles, but in this case it's in stock, so go for it.

ALL PAL versions (Region 2 Europe, Region 4 Australia) and Canadian ....

full rate DTS

and I also noticed that all DVDs only have the original soundtrack (latin/aramaic) with english subs and local subs....

Why would they do this? Does the American version have more "extras" or something that would justify chopping the DTS bitrate in half?

Oh, and Movie Mike, I'll be sending you my drycleaning bill after snorting out a copious amount of coffee reading your brief post above. :D

I'm sure that the Cantonese- and Hutu-speaking community (and others) will be up in arms for the lack of dubbed soundtracks. :D
