So my thread in the Speaker forums (http://www.avsforum.com/forum/89-speakers/1969986-need-help-lcr-placement-doors-way.html) might have me leaning toward a passive soundbar for my buddy who wants an 80" TV (we might have to end up going with a 70-75" instead).

He wants the LCR treatment, but there are doors in the way, and the room dimensions might end up forcing us to go with a soundbar IF there's a good passive 3 channel one that actually sounds good in a 7.1 setup.

So far, the GoldenEar SuperCinema 3D Array XL might be a contender. Definitely no more expensive than that. Also seeing the Def Tech Mythos XTR-SSA3, the Klipsh G-42, and the PSB Imagine. The only thing I'm not keen on with the latter options is that they're only 42-46" wide. Seems the SuperCinema at about 62" might be the best option so far.

What do you guys recommend for passive SBs paired with hudge TVs?

Just went and remeasured. Looks like he'll be going with a 70 incher instead, so the model he's looking at is 62 1/2" wide. Since the GoldenEar bar is 62 1/8", that might just look PERFECT!

Thoughts? Alternatives?

For a wide passive soundbar, other than the GE SuperCinema3D XL there really is only one other I know of. Leon speakers, they make soundbars to whatever width you want. They are custom made to order, and have a premium price tag as a result. http://www.leonspeakers.com/

Although with a smaller TV I would still recommend using three GE SuperSat 60s, or even the SuperSat 50s as I replied in your other post.

We use James Loudspeakers SPL39LCR in our sitting room with the James EMB10 Subwoofer powered by the James M1000 Amp.

James will make what you need too.
