passive sub & satellites w/ pioneer 1014

Newbie to audio world, would like to know if I could use passive sub and matching satellites in home theater. I have just received pioneer 1014, and am using rca pro-lx55 for front and surround, rca pro-ls200 for center, and a acoustic research s108psb powered sub. I would like to add pro sws-501 sub and satellites, but not sure if its ok, and if it is, where to place them (front or surround). The passive sub is 8ohm, 100 watt, with a 12 inch woofer,2 inch dual voice coil, the satellites are 8ohm, 80watts

These rca speakers are new, bought them on clearance, and just had them stuffed away for when I could get a good av receiver. The sub and satellites I bought 10 years ago and used with a stereo receiver, which bit the dust a couple of years ago. So far, laugh if you must, the system sounds really good on 5.1, but if I can use the extra set of speakers to make it 7.1, it would be even better, or would it be 7.2 ??

The used sub has 8 wire connectors, 4 for left and right (in), 4 for left and right (out). I don't know for sure who made these speakers, but somewhere I got the impression they were pioneer. Ten years ago I was very happy them and the bass was exceptional. In my living room the ar powered sub can't quite provide enough bass to fill the room, so the extra sub sure would help.

Thanks to everyone for your post, which have greatly helped in choosing and setting up the pioneer 1014.

No you can't use an unpowered sub with the 1014.
If the sub uses a crossover that then passes the rest of the signal to your front speakers, then sure... why not!
Yes the sub has a crossover inside to send the higher frequencies to the satellites.

YES..

You can use your passive subwoofer and satellites speakers. However keep in mind that they will be hooked up as the Left & Right Fronts, and the 1014 should be set to LARGE. Next connect your center channel and surround speakers up. Assuming you have a center channel and surround speakers, the 1014 settings should be:

1. Subwoofer OFF

2. Left/Right Front LARGE

3. Center SMALL

4. Surrounds SMALL

If you are going to use a powered subwoofer, then turn Subwoofer ON.
