To start I have a Pioneer 7.1 receiver. I have installed the standard 7 speaker setup and now would like to add 2 passive subwoofers 1 below each of the 2 front channels. If I remove the speaker wire front the front speaker, connect it to the sub input and then from the sub out back up to the front speaker. Repeat for the other channel. I'm sure this will work but how will it effect my 7.1 decoding. When the receiver goes thru its setup tones a separate sub will not be found?. Does this method just kinda change my 2 way fronts to quasi 3 ways?? Or should I just by a separate sub amp and run a true ( I guess 7.2 ) system??

without some form of crossover circuit directing only low frequency audio to the subwoofer, you will be asking the woofer to play ALL audio frequencies....and it will do that poorly.

I think your idea of a separate subwoofer amp is a far better solution
