My question is this: Can the G70 accept anything other than RGB (e.g. HDTV YPbPr) when connected (via an RGB cable) to the PC-1271 switcher when 5BNC is set to on?

What I have is two input sources – 1) an HTPC for DVD watching that connects up with an RGB cable and 2) a Motorola 6200 Hi-def cable box that outputs component. I also have a Sony PC-1271 switcher and an SIC-M cable that connects the switcher and the G70 at input B via the IFB-40 box. The switcher outputs an RGB cable to input A on the G70. Cards in the switcher include an IFB-12 and several IFB-10s.

When the 5BNC mode is off I can choose input A to be either RGB or HDTV YPbPr. To watch component I just have to set the sync, which is highlighted, to EXT (HV). I can send the component signal to either box in the switcher, IFB-12 or IFB-10, so long as input A on the G70 is set up correctly for component input. So changing the settings manually via the menu of the G70 I can watch either DVDs or television. (Easy for me to do but tough for wife.)

When the 5BNC mode is on however I loose my ability to choose a component input, I only get RGB. I can set the menu to HDTV YPbPr but the sync selection is no longer highlighted and all I get via component is a green picture. Is there a way for the switcher to change the projector back and forth between RGB and HDTV YPbPr? I thought I could if the component input is fed via the IFB-12 card in the switcher.

I have tried a number of DIP and switch settings on the IFB-12 per past posts but to no avail; the switches don’t seem to change anything, only the G70s internal menus make a difference with the IFB-12. Without using the PC-1271, I can put the IFB-12 into input B and can get component HD to work but I wanted the convenience and ease of using the external switcher and the G70 in the 5BNC mode.

Sorry for the long-winded questions. Any thoughts?

If you want to feed it component from the switcher, you need an IFB-12A card. That's the only way.

Bruce,

I can feed the projector component via the switcher either through an IFB-10 or an IFB-12. If input A is set up to receive component – 5BNC off, HDTV YPvPr, sync to EXT (HV) – either card will transfer the component signal. On the other hand, if 5BNC is on, I can no longer get the sync highlighted and all I get is RGB, even with the IFB-12 card. I’ve tried to change the settings on the IFB-12 card and it seems to make no difference.

Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems funny that when 5BNC is on all I can pass is RGB from the switcher. Why can’t I pass a component signal via the IFB-12 card with the 5BNC on? What’s the point of having a switcher if you are stuck in a single mode?

The actual component circuitry is in the projector, HOWEVER, to my knowledge, only the IFB-12 (and the 1300 etc.) works through the projectors menu, other cards, like the RGBHV card don't show in the menu and need to have their jumpers set on the card.

It's late and maybe I'm not following you, but the IFB-10 isn't for component, so you need to use that card in the switcher for regular RGBHV. The IFB-12 card can not only be used for component, but for RGBHV also. In your case, I think the problem is that the G70 doesn't recognize the IFB-10 card for menu setup like the IFB-12. I had this problem a couple of years ago but don't remember what I did off hand. but I KNOW the 10 was a problem.
