I have optical inputs on my denon. What do I need to ouput using optical link from a pc ? IS there a sound card or interface card that does this ?

if all you're going to do is play music, then checkout the M-Audio Sonica...


very inexpensive, but M-Audio is known for good quality soundcards.


its pretty much a music-only card... i think it DOES 5.1 passthrough, but it has no inputs.


it doesn't resample like a lot of the creative labs cards.


fyi, its a USB card.

I currently use the M-Audio Delta/Dio 24.96 sound card to send both high def and DVD sound to my receiver via optical output.

I use a Fortissimo II sound card, but agree that if you want to avoid re-sampling, go with somethind like the M-Audio card. Go to the HomeTheater PC Forum here on AVS and do a search...


Basically, all you need is a soundcard with an SPDIF interface. SPDIF can be either an optical output or a "digital coax" output. The price range is from $20 up to thousands...
