I have the Toshiba clone of the PE7700, and I did a few comparisons after getting the HD-A1 v2.0 firmware upgrade. I like the 720p a little bit better, but the difference is very small. I am using a 92" diagonal screen.

I still have firmware version 1.4 and of course 1080i out of the Toshiba yields much better results on the 7700 than 720p. As ChrisW6ATV mentioned, he has the 2.0 firmware and and likes the 720p a bit better. Only one way to find out
