Do I need to clean my pearl's filter periodically, or will the projector tell me when its is time, buy displaying something on the screen.

I don't know if the Pearl does that, but most mfgrs recommend filter cleaning periods in their manuals. I have owned several projectors over time in both lcd and dlp and have always cleaner the filters ( on lcd ), and the air intake openings on dlp, every 50 hours regardless of mfgr suggestions and I have never had any premature lamp failures or any PJ overheating problems.
