Hello,

I am located on Pensacola Beach FL and wondering what i should be able to get OTA here.

Currently i have the Radio Shack bowtie connected to an RCA DTC-100.

I can easily get PBS and NBC.

Of course i would like to get CBS but can't seem to find it.

Is CBS being broadcast near Pensacola?

Is it that i might need a larger antenna?

If i could get CBS, What would be the suggested smallest antenna to pull it in?

I do have direct tv and get HDNet and HBO HD but really want to add CBS to my list.

Thanks

Welcome to Lower Alabama, Megazeph. We have a thread about the Mobile/Pensacola OTA at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=132033 that will inlighten you to the local DTV status.

Right now you're getting all the HDTV that available, PBS and NBC. WKRG-CBS has a DTV station on the air right now on channel 27. The transmitter is low power at 50kW and they do not have capability to show any CBS HDTV. Our fourth DTV station is WALA-FOX on channel 9. They are on the air with 4:3 SD, but still working to get the FOX 16:9 widescreen in about a month and a half.

I'm guess the "Radio Shack Bow Tie" is the indoor antenna? The towers for all the local stations are located in Alabama, between Mobile and Pensacola. WSRE-PBS and WMPI-NBC are closest to Pensacola, and running 256kW and 1MW, respectivity, so they should be easy. I heard that Robert Wood in Pensacola, about 40 miles from the tower can't receive anything from CBS on his antenna. Another follow in Pensacola, Jerry, is about 30 miles from the tower and he's getting WKRG CBS.

Yeah, everyone here, FOX, NBC, PBS are zooming 4:3 material to about 14:9 to fill the screen a little more.

Just remember, while WALA will have the capability to send 720p in the very near future, FOX programming will still be 480p widescreen. There will be no improvement in resolution over what we are getting from WALA now, except for the getting a full 16:9 image when the programming is widescreen. WALA is looking ahead, I guess, expecting they will send HDTV OTA sometime in the future with local programming, even if FOX never does.

Apparently the reason I can't get it and Jerry can is that I'm trying to shoot my rooftop bowtie through trees. Jerry informs me that he had the same trouble but was able to get the signal after he moved his antenna to avoid trees.
