16:9 WXGA Projector (like the Sharp 9000)

4:3 XGA projector (like the Sanyo xp21N)

Direct view CRT (like the Sony XBR450 series)

RPTV (like the Sony XBR2 series)

Clarification beyond simple ranking would be even better.

The reason I am asking is that I have seen all of these except the 4:3 XGA projector displaying HD and am interested in a 4:3 XGA projector. I realize this is highly subjective (and don't worry, I won't be rushing out to buy based on this thread alone) but I am having a hard time getting a demo of any 4:3 projector showing Hi Def material in Northern Virginia. All the home theatre stores carry only the more expensive 16:9 panel machines. Thanks in advance for any opinions you share.

IMHO some of the current XGA DLP projectors are a better value than the WXGA projectors. The NEC LT150 or LT150z and the Infocus LP530 come to mind.

My opinion must be taken with the knowledge that I prefer bargains and find that the HT-specific machines are not worth the extra cost over carefully selected and configured presentation machines. This is a controversial issue on this forum (no flaming please, I know a lot of folks disagree).

I do like the Seleco machines. Though expensive, they come the closest to representing the kind of added value that I would require in order to make such an investment.

Now that the WXGA Seleco 300 is available, you might find a bargain in the 200 (only SVGA but very impressive, especially good builtin video processing) or the 250 (XGA). Ask Alan Gouger or Jason Turk of AVS.
