Yeah Salks do look very nice.

It says on their site other veneers are available if desired.

For that price range though if I was in the market for speakers I would take a good look at them based on the drivers used and who makes them.

Cabinets being made by Salk?

Chu,

I only saw this with the 3 set. You could probably ping them for more info if needed.

Cabinets for the Philharmonic 3 are made to order domestically with the customer's choice of veneer.

My mains are rated pretty much the same as these and they have no problem being run off of a little QSC GX5. Listening position is about 13-14 feet away from them. They have no issues with HT or music and I would believe anything from DM would perform nicely also.

MJ,

I saw this right above the specs (about three graphs up from them actually), I am not sure if that answers your questions.

"Increasing the input to 40 watts into this nominal 8-ohm load"

On the "Philharmonic 3" page.

I would love to hear a good Raal design since I have heard so many good things about them. My speakers have the NeoPro5's and most feel the Raal smokes it, just want to see for myself.

Dennis,

Just a quick question for you, on all three sets of the Philharmonics; it is mentioned that they use an open back upper cabinet. With this, do you recommend these be placed a certain distance away from the back wall?

I was just wondering in case someone else had this question and maybe a bit hesitant to ask. Thanks.

Hey guys, just got off the phone with Dennis. Professional who knows his stuff. I've been looking to spend 10k on speakers, but after careful consideration and reading AVS for the last few years, I've decided on the Phil 2s. 2k for 10k speakers created by one of the best designers in the world. They will be used exclusively in my 2 channel rig backed by a Bryston 4BSST2, Benchmark DAC1 and YBA transport.

Ross,

Very nice to hear. Please keep us posted on how things go once they are setup and rocking.

It's also one heck of an amp. That's the one I want to get eventually...but used.

I would most defiantly have to listen to the amp in house before even thinking of dropping that kind of coin on one.

Woodsart,

Sorry to hear about your mother.

I lost my brother a little over 3 years ago and then my mother 6 months after that. Things get easier but a hole is never filled, but to me never should be.

Keep your head up.

Nuance,

Would there be any issues with the space needed behind the speakers for your room? I assume not since you are eyeing them but figured I would ask since Bob was talking about a 4 foot distance.

Also, you only live once so I say get them and go. And I do not think anyone who has seen you post would feel offended by you trying another speaker or that you do not love what you have now. You seem to be a good ambassador for Salk (not meant in a bad way).

Well don't count it out because you (or anyone) can build it. I use one in my system and it was very interesting going to it from using my Onkyo 885 before the Pass. So much so, I would not go back to the Onkyo for my music listening. If you lived closer I would let you run by and borrow it and see what you think.
