Philips 42PF9630/78 - error messages

757 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  VideoJames
Hi guys

Sorry about the double post but I'm really concerned about this. On the service menu, when I first looked at, it showed an error code and then a defective module "Feature Box". Now, looking at it again, it's showing "Video Controller".

I have a 7 days to return my plasma in case of problems or if I don't like it. Should I go for it?!

Also, I tested two DVD players and both of them show a small black bar on the top of the screen, less than 1 inche high, if this is somehow related...

Thanks

Paulo

Absolutely, exchange it, replace it get yourself a new one. It's likely the SSB (Small Signal Board) module is defective. Why get it repaired if you can get a new one?
But what am I gonna say to the salesperson?? 'Cause apparently the TV is working perfectly, but I get those messagens when I go to the service menu, and I can't enter the service menu or I loose my warranty, right?

To better my understanding, you went into the service menu on a perfectly working plasma to what??? Then you have a line on the panel when you watch DVD's. Does this set work or not? Imo if you have a problem with one of the video inputs and have time left on the exchange policy that sucker's going back for a new one ASAP. If the salesperson ask, there's a problem with one of the video inputs, the unit is defective, very simple.
I went into the service menu to check the number of hours viewed.. and then those messages came up.. The tv seems to be working perfectly, however I'm afraid of future problems that might happen..
Something as simple as a hdcp protection fault could log an error in the buffer that you are looking at, but its not something that would happen all the time. What error code # was it? Many of the error codes are accompanied by a blinking LED pattern on the front of the TV.

Since you feel comfortable using the service menu you may want to go and clear the error, and watch for it to happen again. Use the Reset Error Buffer menu item to clear it.
