Like many in this forum, I've waited several months for the release of the Philips Cineos sets. Unfortunately, I've been eyeing the 44PL9773, which apparently hasn't arrived anywhere yet and is rumored (by at least one poster on this board) to be cancelled entirely. Last week I was on the Philips Cineos website and used their "where to buy" function trying to locate a dealer. My only luck came with the 55PL9773--using the max search area (200 miles) I located a single dealer, and by God it was only 2 miles away!! Happy days. Unfortunately, I wasted my time driving to the store only to be told that they have not yet received any Cineos and had no idea when they would. Bummer.
Anyway, my wife called the Philips customer service number trying to find out when the set will finally become available. The rep told her that it was released this past week; he knew this, he claimed, because he had taken calls from owners of the set wanting directions. My wife was very careful to stress the 44 part of the model number several times and the rep continued to insist that its out there. Needless to say, when my wife told me of her conversation, I was HIGHLY skeptical, so I called. I asked the same question--when will the 44PL9773 arrive at retailers. This is where it gets good. This person, after repeating the model number to me, told me that "That model has been available in stores since June." Ha!!! And before I could get a word out in reply, she then said I should be able to find it at my local Best Buy or (drum roll please . . . ) Wal-mart! What comedy!
Unintentional comedy aside, I find it extremely disappointing that Philips mis-informs their customer service reps and allows such BS to be spewed to potential customers. If nothing else, it greatly reduces my confidence in Philips as a company. I'll think twice, probably more, about spending big $$$ on a Philips product.
Lastly, has anyone else noticed that Philips has taken the prices off of their Cineos website?? Not a good sign for anyone looking to buy one of these sets!
