One of the interesting curiosities from CES this year was the Philips PFL8900, which uses a red laser in combination with cyan LEDs to backlight the picture.

According to the initial C|Net coverage it's supposed to start shipping in May, but I haven't been able to find a lot of information online about it. C|Net also suggests it may have FALD. Here's the (short) write-up.

Philips hasn't been known for making great quality TVs as of late, and using lasers in unexpected ways seems to be something more up Mitsubishi's alley, but I'm intrigued by the possibilities here.

Has anyone heard anything informative about this yet?

Philips finally put this TV up on their website. As far as I can tell it's not actually available for purchase anywhere yet though, and details are scarce, but it looks like it may actually exist. Link to Philips website.
