On Comcast HD cable in the Twin Cities (and everywhere, I presume) we have the ironic spectacle of the same MLB game (Phillies @ Braves) being presented on both ESPN-HD and INHD1.

Why ironic, you say? Well, ESPN-HD is showing the game in ordinary 4:3 fuzzvision, while ESPN's announcers are sitting right next to the INHD announcers whose equipment is perfectly capable of being shared by both. There's absolutely no reason in the world why ESPN's obnoxious announcers couldn't talk against the backdrop of INHD's beautiful hi-def feed. This kind of thing is done all the time when there are audiences who speak different languages.

Absolutely, and their's also no reason why my local bank shouldn't share all that money they have in their vault.

Ken H, you're a moderator! You should be more moderate in your response. Surely you know that a camera feed is divisible while cold cash is not. The analogy you offered is specious.

My analogy is not spacious by any means, if you understand how things work in the TV business. The point is very simple; INHD has a contract, why should give away a product to ESPN? Exclusivity has value, which INHD payed for.

Even so, ESPN would have to have a mobile HD production unit on site to accomplish what you suggest, and if they had that, they wouldn't need to piggy-back on the INHD production in the first place.

The whole idea is a far fetched fantasy. As far as my being moderate, when members post outlandish ideas, that goes out the window.

Lucky you, Dr Hill! No local sports in HD here on Twin Cities Comcast unless ESPN or INHD has it.
