Picking a good TV for dark Scifi movies

Hi.

I am looking to upgrade the family TV/homecinema with a new display and AV receiver that can do Atmos. Recevier leans towards Denon AH3700. But what display? We will watch a mixed bag of standard TV content but also movies. We enjoy scifi movies(star wars, Aliens etc) so black/dark performance is a priority. Watching will take placemostly in the evening. The room is an average livingroom, sofa white walls, but with curtains to block out sunlight.

After my investigations I was pretty sure best choice would be a LG 65 CX. Good price, OLED for absolute blacks, eARC for Atmos audio.

But then I found some reviews that mentioned that blacks are crushed so that detail levels will be lost in the darkest scenes. Which made me question my choice.

I can find a Sony KD65A85 at similiar price. Does it have less black level crush? Is it a better TV than the LG 65CX?

Or should I look at something else? Is QLED an option to get a smooth picture in the dark details? Maybe less black without crush is better?

I am on a budget so choices are restricted around the 2000 pricerange.

Panasonic HZ1000 is your best bet for near black performance

If you are on a budget and most likely will not be getting the tv calibrated, for best OOTB near black performance a panasonic 1000 series oled would be the best bet. A hz1000 or in europe there might be a hz980 as well. If you can wait some time until the JZ series of panasonic oleds is about to launch, you might be able to get one of the HZ models at more discounted prices.

Since you mentioned you were on a budget, the Sony a80j is the set you want for your use case...

Sony a80j is a pricier tv right now than the a85 or hz1000 mainly because it's a recent launch while the latter two are last year's models. Between the a85 (a variant of a8h) and hz1000, for someone on a budget who mostly likely wont opt for calibration and dark scene performance in movies matters, the hz1000 is the better bet.
