Hey guys found this forum because i need some help.


So i have some old pioneer speakers that are still in decent shape that my dad gave me. I have a Samsung ln42b550 tv. I also have an xbox 360 elite, PS3, and comcast hd box.


So my question is based on this setup what receiver should i pick out. My price range is preferably $250 or less (poor college student). I have looked on Amazon and Best Buy and have found several items in that price range. However, I am new to this and want to make a smart and educated decision, so thats where you guys come in. If you guys could shed some light or provide any recommendations as to good receivers in that price range that will work with all my components that would be much appreciated!

Any of the entry level receivers from Sony/Pioneer/Yamaha/Onkyo/Denon are all about the same. Pick the one that has the remote and OSD you like best.

Pioneer VSX-821-K. The price says $399.99 - but if you add it to the cart and go to the checkout process - right before you click Process - its on sale for $259. Best bang for your buck imo.

Costco has the VSX-820-K for $198.


You also might try looking at Onkyo refurbs. Shoponkyo.com gives an extra $10 off for signing up for ClubOnkyo. Plus they often have 10-20% off sales for holidays.


Also check out B&M stores for closeouts.


Do you need iPod connectivity or some other special feature?


Are you going to listen to more music, movies, games, what?

@ Bladerunner: I don't have any special specific needs for the receiver. I want one that is great all around. I primarily will use it for when using the Xbox/Ps3 & Blu-rays and also when we have parties to be able to jam out loud to some good music. As far as ipod connectivity i already have a ipod connector that has the 3 colored inputs that i can plug into the back of any receiver.
