Pics of my 100% WAF approved plasma 5.1 install. Sort Of!?!?

Hello everyone, I'm sort of new around here so hello to everyone if you don't know me yet. I just received my panny last weekend and finally got the time to get it set up and I thought I would post some pics to give you guys some ideas for a nice, simple and clean plasma install. It is definitely 100% WAF approved. I'll try to provide you guys with as much information as possible.

Components (very simple):

TV: Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY

Receiver: Denon ADV-M71 DVD receiver w/ dolby virtual surround

Speakers: Orb Mod1

Subwoofer: Velodyn 8" Subwoofer

Cable Source: Comcast HD box

DVD Source: Denon ADV-M71

VHS Source: VH..what??

Basically, this install had to obide by 3 WAF rules

1. No cables showing (ANYWHERE)

2. No subwoofer showing

3. No BIG speakers.

Since I am in the process of building a Home Theater in the basement, these rules seemed pretty fair to me. Oh yah, I forgot to mention about the "sort of" in the title. That is because this is not a "true" 5.1 dolby digital but instead what dolby likes to call (DVS) Dolby Virtual Surround with basically takes your DD/DTS signal and converts it to DVS which in term is "supposed to" replicate a 5.1 channel setup with just 2 front speakers. The supposed to is in parenthesis for a reason my friends, I'll just leave it at that. The pictures are of the front view, the side view (with the sub hidden behind the couch), and a close up of some program on HD Tonight. Let me know your thoughts??? Now all I have to do is decide what to put on those shelves???

If I had a abide by those rules I'd be first in line for a divorce:D

It is a clean install but the monitor is a bit high for my taste. BTW - Does the wifey like the blue sticker on the monitor? Peel it off...
Move the monitor down and put those boxes inside the mount on the wall. Then you will be all set.;)
Great way to keep it clean. Is that an Ikea piece?

You can remove the small handles on the plasma if you'd like, I have left mine on, but many feel they unit looks smoother without them.

I'm currently going against all WAF rules in our house and building up a new 5.1 theater. I wish I had somewhere to a) hide the wires like you did b) hide the sub like you did and c) was able/allowed to mount our plasma. :)

Great to see you're checking out the show "Speed". :D

Looks good - nice job. I suggest removing the handles, maybe lowering the panel about 6-8 inches, and find someplace to put the electronics.

Yes, It is an Ikea bookshelf I picked up for $80 and mounted to the wall.

Nice clean set up.

What video is that with Roby Gordon in the Champ Car? Is it Driven? I have seen CC playing a lot of Champ car video in their stores and the pictures look great.
Nice job!

But I do agree with removing the handles. The "side view" will improve remarkably. :)

That is the biggest downfall of this shelf. It will not fit the cable box or any regular sized components. I think I'm going to build something for the components that I can put on top of the shelf. As far as moving it down, I sort of liked the way it looked up high and have installed a tilt mount if I later decided it felt high. In the living room, this plasma is more of a discussion item as opposed to a part of a home theater IMO. Theater stuff is going in the basement.

1. Move the plasma lower, much too high.

2. The electronics would look much better in the cabinet.

3. Go with a real 5.1 setup. In wall speakers should meet your WAF.
How do you hide your power cable for the plasma? Just curious.

1. I may do that in the future, but I actually like it the same height as the art around the room. Personal preference I guess.

2. I am definitely going to build a shelf for those this week

3. 5.1 is being saved for the HT in the basement. This TV will be used for about 95% cable viewing and 5% movies.

Good question. I ran them through the wall downstairs to the basement. I should mention that the cableless setup probably could not have been possible without a basement, especially for the subwoofer.

It was on INHD on comcast last night and I have no idea what the name of the program was. It looked INCREDIBLE though. And I am probably the worst photographer is this forum too.
Nice looking setup. I hope your hidden power cords are to electrical code. Many of us have WAF issues, just different degrees of difficulty to overcome.

Some of us simply have WAF of changing out the old CRT (hey its only 8 years old with no working sound - why do you want a new one?) I figure once we have the plasma she will love it (just like that DVD player, DVR, and Ipod we did not need - but she cannot live without now).

JCPZero
Speedway IMAX?
If you like your plasma where it is, leave it there. Mine is going over the fireplace and will probably be just a little higher than yours. Enjoy.
i really like this setup. Clean is so nice.
